Urban Garden Solutions is a family-owned and operated business based in Renton, Washington that developed out of necessity. We were seeing several problems becoming more prominent in our society that were directly affecting our family as well as most others we knew.  Overall food costs were and still are rising. Repeated outbreaks of E.Coli, salmonella and other infectious bacteria were affecting our food supply. We, along with most people, were growing more and more concerned about how chemical pesticides and genetically altered food might be affecting our health. Local and widespread disasters such as flooding, hurricanes and earthquakes were interrupting food supplies in those areas and beyond. People were beginning to realize just how dependent most of us are on our country's infrastructure and how far we've gone away from being self-reliant.

With respect to our family's health and the current problem with obesity in our country, we knew that we needed to stay focused on maintaining a good diet and increasing the amount of fresh, whole foods in our daily diet.  This means keeping plenty of these types of foods on hand.  However, unless you want to make a trip to the market every couple of days, this was difficult for several reasons.  For one, who has time for that?  Next, availability of a wide variety of produce varies greatly across the country and throughout the year.  In addition, available produce is frequently either over- or under-ripe, which means it either goes bad within a couple of days or the flavor quality is poor. 

It was common sense to us that growing our own food to supplement what we bought at the market would address all of these issues.  However, when you live in urban/suburban areas with little or no yard space - that's a problem!  What do you do if you have a tiny yard, reside in a downtown condo, or live in a milder environment where the growing season is relatively short?  We've made it our mission to find solutions to these challenges - hence Urban Garden Solutions was born! Our purpose is to find and offer a comprehensive selection of products that allow urbanites to grow the highest yield of organic, disease-free food within a limited space.
